First self-financed Engineering College of the State

Managed by Bhilai Institute of Technology Trust

Seth Balkrishan was a great philanthropist and a paragon of human  virtues. His contribution to the field of education, sports, social uplift  and the spiritual need of the community are legendary in Bhilai and indeed in the region. His enlightened humanity is beacon of hope in these difficult years when we as  people are experiencing  the  pains of moving towards a real national  identity,  a cultural  and  an  emotional  integration,  his  example  may  inspire the faculty and the future graduates of the BHILAI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY to serve the industries and people of India to best of their abilities.

The  biggest  leap  towards  modernity  and  development  of  the  Chhattisgarh  region was the establishment of Bhilai Steel Plant at Bhilai. This single step proved to be an important factor in the transformation of an agrarian society into a thriving industrial region. These important developments necessitated suitably trained personnel. With above in view, some organizations, industrialists, charitable institutions and philanthropic societies of the region took an initiative for establishing an engineering educational institution. For this a trust was formed and duly registered. The Government of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh accorded the permission to open a self supporting and self financing engineering institute and thus in July 1986,  Bhilai Institute of Technology came into existence.
