Mission: To provide quality education to students in the area of Mechanical Engineering so that they are qualified for professional work, or to pursue higher studies.

Fittingly called the 'Evergreen Branch', the department has kept itself up to date with the latest developments and trends in the field and has become the mainstay of the institution. One of the first four departments established in this college, the department has carved a niche as one of the finest in the region, a pillar of strength in BIT and, on a broader basis, in the engineering community. Presently, the department is offering Undergraduate (BE) with an annual intake of 90 in Mechanical Engineering.

The National Board of Accreditation of AICTE has accredited the department. The department has been as recognized by the University for offering PhD program in Mechanical Engineering.

The department is fuelled by highly qualified and experienced staff in all streams of Mechanical Engineering. An interactive relationship is maintained between the students and staff which enables the students to develop a sound foundation which is an essential trait of a good Mechanical Engineer. This also reflects in our Campus Our students have been placed in the leading industrial houses of the country. Top 10% of our students proceed to pursue their higher education in either Engineering or Management streams.

            The department is boast of its fully modernized present state-of-the-art laboratories to carry out practical courses as well to carry our R&D and consultancy activities.

The department is also offering Post Graduate (M.E.) program (Full Time) with specialization in Production Engineering, the need of the day. To cater to the need of the students of Post Graduate program a good number of Design based software are under use. Few of them to mention are: ANSYS, AUTOCAD, PRO-E, CATEA etc. The departmental library serves the need of the students and faculty for carrying out their studies, project work and R&D activities.
