Mission: To inculcate a strong desire among the students to know the chemistry of everything and to apply the knowledge in the real world for the betterment of the mankind.

The usefulness of Chemistry when applied to solve problems in Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine and in Industry in particular, is one of the main reasons for including chemistry as a full fledged subject with practical in the curriculum of Engineering. With a view to impart knowledge and support the Institute academically, the most vibrant and active department was established along with the inception of BIT. It is the only department in BIT where all the faculty members posses PhD qualification. The department is fully equipped to carry out the Sponsored Research and Consultancy services. Apart from all the requirements for conducting the practical classes, the department is boast of having few rare and costly instruments like CG-ECD-FID, AAS, UV-VIS, ISE etc. backed up required and competent software.

The department is a recognized consultant to Chhattisgarh Environmental Conservation Board, Bhilai Steel Plant, ACC Jamul, South Eastern Coalfields Ltd., NECO Steels, Various Bottled Mineral Water producing companies etc.

The department is actively engaged in R&D activities as well. It has been recognized by the University as a Center for carrying out PhD program. Five of the research scholars have already been awarded PhD and presently more than eight candidates are pursuing their PhD work from this department. Adding a feather to the crown, this department has also been recognized as a Center for carrying out D.Sc. program by Dr. H.S. Gaur University, Sagar. The highly qualified and equally experienced faculty members are engaged in frontier areas of researches and consultancy. Good number of International research publications and Consultancy reports are the Hallmark of this department.
